The season finale plays first at The Wallis in Beverly Hills, presented in partnership with The Wallis and Classical California, with performances at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 23, a matinee and an evening performance Saturday, Oct. 24, and a matinee Sunday, Oct. 25, that MUSE/IQUE has set aside for premium RSVPs, according to the organization’s website.
The open house follows at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 28, at the Ambassador Auditorium, 131 S. St. John Ave. Admission is free, but an RSVP is required and seats are first come, first served, according to MUSE/IQUE. The organization describes the annual open house as a thank-you to its audience, an evening when members are encouraged to bring family, friends and neighbors and reacquaint themselves with its community programs. Additional details are still to come.
The program builds on Copland’s break from European classical tradition and his willingness to fold in new genres, which MUSE/IQUE says uncovered a new American sound that celebrated ordinary people and gave rise to artists from Leonard Bernstein to Paul Simon to Rhiannon Giddens. The concert connects the history behind that sound through works from “Simple Gifts” to “American Tune,” according to the organization.
The performances feature Brandon Victor Dixon, whom MUSE/IQUE identifies as a Grammy Award winner, soprano Liv Redpath and the MUSE/IQUE Orchestra, according to a pitch from the organization’s marketing and communications manager, Keeana Villamar, who said the group is offering artist interviews.
Redpath is a familiar voice to MUSE/IQUE audiences, having appeared with the orchestra in earlier seasons, including its outdoor summer concerts on the lawn at The Huntington.
MUSE/IQUE runs its season on a membership model, with members admitted to a year of programs from the day they join; single admissions to the Wallis performances are also available through the organization’s website.
