Pasadena Public Library will host acclaimed novelist Liz Moore for a free virtual author talk on Wednesday, January 28, offering community readers a rare opportunity to discuss her latest bestseller with one of contemporary fiction’s most celebrated writers.

Moore’s fifth novel “The God of the Woods” became an instant New York Times bestseller and earned People Magazine’s number one book of the year award in 2024. The novel opens in August 1975 when a summer camp counselor discovers that 13-year-old Barbara Van Laar has disappeared from her bunk. Barbara’s vanishing mirrors a family tragedy from 14 years earlier: her older brother, Peter “Bear” Van Laar IV, vanished in 1961 at age eight and was never found.

Moore is an Associate Professor of English and Director of the Master of Fine Arts program in Creative Writing at Temple University in Philadelphia. Her earlier novel “Long Bright River” also became an instant New York Times bestseller and was selected by President Barack Obama as one of his favorite books of 2020.

The program will feature a moderated conversation with Moore followed by an interactive question-and-answer session.

“Secrets and Second Chances with Liz Moore” will run on Wednesday, January 28 at 4 p.m. PST. Virtual event via Pasadena Public Library livestream. For more information, call (626) 744-4066 or visit https://www.cityofpasadena.net/library/?trumbaEmbed=view%3Devent%26eventid%3D193203456.
