Ever wanted to be an expert in public speaking but a lack of confidence got in the way?

There is a way to beat that, especially now that Toastmasters International, a nonprofit educational organization that teaches public speaking and leadership skills, is starting a new chapter in Pasadena.

The chapter is called the Arts, Culture and History Toastmasters of Pasadena and will have its inaugural meeting at 7 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 23.

Sam Luk, a longtime member of Monterey Park Toastmasters, is co-founding the new Pasadena Toastmasters club.

“Surrounded by the San Gabriel Mountains, Pasadena is a unique cultural enclave with some of the most esteemed art collections, and architecture,” Luk said. “The Crown City has a fascinating history and vibrant culinary, and music scenes. This club is unique and will provide a venue for people who are interested to share their knowledge, hear and learn from others or exchange ideas about Pasadena culture, and much more.”

Luk said the club’s first meeting on Saturday will begin with a brief introduction about Pasadena and Toastmasters. Participants are expected to experience firsthand what and how they can learn and benefit from the Toastmasters program which includes but is not limited to improving their communication skills, having stronger leadership and presentation skills, and building confidence while learning more about Pasadena.

Luk added the club will serve as one of the conduits to facilitate the promotion of the rich heritage of Pasadena to the world, especially considering Toastmasters is an international organization.

“We are certain that this new Toastmaster club will bring added benefits to the community and the city by helping people to connect with each other and have some friendly and meaning conversations, especially in this uncertain time,” Luk said.

There are no registration fees to attend the kickoff meeting.
