The Norton Simon Museum will present Yasujirō Ozu’s “An Autumn Afternoon” (1962, NR) on Friday, September 12, at 5 p.m.

The nearly two-hour screening represents the final work of one of cinema’s most revered directors.

Ozu, born December 12, 1903, in Tokyo, began his film career during the silent era.

The Criterion Collection describes “An Autumn Afternoon” as a fond farewell to Ozu’s filmmaking career.

The approach in Japan Society programming notes is reflected in the film’s progression: it reveals the natural ebb and flow of things, and the inevitable loneliness of it all.

The screening takes place at 411 W. Colorado Blvd., in Pasadena. For information, call (626) 449-6840.
