Exactly one year after the Eaton Fire destroyed nearly 9,400 structures, the Altadena Library District and Juicy Little Society are inviting families to participate in a program designed to help rebuild irreplaceable family photographs and memories lost in the disaster.

The Juicy Little Scraps Art Scrapbooking Program allows participants to create new memory books using free scrapbooks, photo albums and supplies, or to pick up preprinted photos and materials to take home. Families must register in advance; once registered, the library will send an email to gather digital files that will be pre-printed for the program.

The January 7 fire burned 14,021 acres and killed at least 19 people, making it the fifth deadliest and second most destructive wildfire in California history.

Juicy Little Society, a youth-driven nonprofit led by CEO Krystal Lopez, is presenting the program. The organization has been instrumental in Altadena’s recovery efforts since losing its own clubhouse in the fire. Lopez, a single mother and survivor of sex trafficking who founded the nonprofit, organized immediate community response efforts. The organization has provided weekly food pop-ups, mobile food pantries serving thousands of families, scholarships to fire-impacted students and holiday toy drives—all free for Altadena residents.

The initiative represents part of the Altadena Library District’s comprehensive fire recovery mission. With support from Direct Relief, the library district is partnering with local organizations to offer workshops and activities that promote community health and well-being in the aftermath of the fire.

Juicy Little Scraps Art Scrapbooking Program will run on Friday, January 17 at 12:00 p.m. Main Library Community Room, Altadena Library District, 600 E. Mariposa Street, Altadena, California 91001.
