Parent Education Session: Building Resilience Through Empathy and Connection

Published on Jun 15, 2021

The Altadena Library District will host a Zoom parent education session on “Building Resilience Through Empathy and Connection” from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, June 26.

In this free virtual event, Liz Arnold, program coordinator of education for Young and Healthy Pasadena, will offer and discuss strategies, techniques and tips for building connections in families during this time of global transition.

“When one approaches their children with empathy and compassion, it builds connection and helps them to know that regardless of what is happening around them, they will always have someone that they can rely on and trust,” the Altadena Library District said in an announcement of the event.

In her book, “Bottom Line for Baby,” Dr. Tina Payne Bryson, a psychotherapist and the founder/executive director of The Center for Connection, writes that brain function, productivity, learning and coping are all enhanced by human connection. One’s brain is meant to connect with others, she adds.

Arnold has been with Young and Healthy Pasadena since 2013 where, as program coordinator for education and volunteers, she is responsible for the recruitment, record maintenance, assignment and nurturing of all professional and community volunteers. She is also responsible for the overall organization and implementation of the First Grade Dental Education program, Teeny Teeth and Parent Engagement and Education program, and Trauma Informed Care Education programming.

Arnold developed a series of research-based classes for parents to help them to understand their child’s brain development and have an awareness of how learning and behavior is related to the presence of trauma.

This virtual webinar is ideal for parents as well as caregivers.
