The free Poetry/Author Talk begins at 2 p.m. at the Village Office Community Room. Open to all, the afternoon includes readings from her published work, discussion of her literary experience, and the opportunity for attendees to ask questions or engage in writing exercises if they wish.
Sameth’s recent full-length poetry collection, “Secondary Inspections” (Nymeria Publishing, 2024), explores identity and belonging. Her memoir “One Day on the Gold Line: A Memoir in Essays” received the 2021 Independent Press Award Distinguished Favorite in the memoir category.
Now an adjunct professor of creative writing at Southern New Hampshire University, Sameth views her work through a dual lens, according to her author website.
From 2022 to 2024, she served as Co-Poet Laureate for Altadena, working with poet Peter J. Harris on “Ode to the Land,” a series of workshops exploring cross-generational creativity and connection to place and identity. Locally, she is a member of Pasadena Rose Poets and co-founded The Pasadena Writing Project in 2009. She also mentors incarcerated youth through WriteGirl and has worked with organizations addressing family violence and community building.
Pasadena Village, founded in 2012, serves more than 250 members and is one of approximately 300 villages across the United States supporting seniors who choose to age in place.
Poetry/Author Talk with Carla Rachel Sameth will run on Friday, Dec. 5 at 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Pasadena Village Office Community Room, 236 W. Mountain Street, #113, Pasadena.
