Pasadena’s alleys are a parallel city — narrow service corridors that residents drive past every day without registering, threaded between the boulevards as a kind of secondary street grid. On Saturday morning, cyclists will trace 13 of them on Tour d’Allée Pasadena, a free guided ride that starts at the north end of Big Bang Theory Way, across the street from the Memorial Park Metro station.

The ride is one of dozens of free events scheduled across May for Pasadena Bike Month, organized by the City of Pasadena Department of Transportation, the nonprofit Day One, and the Pasadena Complete Streets Coalition. Riders will pause along the route for ice cream — a Bike Month tradition that has anchored several rides in past years.

Helmets are required for youth under 18 and recommended for all ages. Bikes should be in good working order. Pasadena Bike Month runs through May 31 and includes the Greene & Greene Architecture Bike Tour on May 17 from the Gamble House Bookstore, an Ice Cream Ride on May 31, and a Family Fun Day & Family Ride on May 23 at La Pintoresca Park.

Tour d’Allée Pasadena will run on Saturday, May 16 from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Starting point: north end of Big Bang Theory Way, across from the Memorial Park Metro station, Pasadena. For more information, visit bit.ly/PasadenaBikeMonth. Admission is free.
