Every blood donation has the potential to save lives, and on Aug. 23, Pasadena residents will have an opportunity to help meet a continuing need for blood supplies when the International WeLoveU Foundation hosts a community blood drive at the Pasadena Convention Center.
The event comes as hospitals and blood centers nationwide continue to encourage eligible donors to give blood to help maintain adequate supplies for patients undergoing surgeries, cancer treatments, emergency care and other lifesaving medical procedures. Because blood cannot be manufactured, communities depend entirely on volunteer donors to help ensure that blood is available whenever it is needed.
Founded in 2001, the International WeLoveU Foundation is a global humanitarian nonprofit organization associated with the United Nations Department of Global Communications. With volunteers serving communities in dozens of countries, the organization conducts charitable initiatives focused on health, environmental stewardship, education, disaster relief and community service, with blood donation campaigns among its signature programs.
The Pasadena event is part of the foundation’s Worldwide One-Two Blood Drive, an international campaign that promotes voluntary, unpaid blood donation while helping replenish blood supplies through partnerships with hospitals and blood collection organizations. According to the foundation, the campaign’s name reflects the idea that one person’s act of compassion can inspire others, creating a ripple effect of lifesaving generosity throughout communities.
Since its inception, the Worldwide One-Two Blood Drive has expanded to dozens of countries, with the foundation reporting hundreds of blood drives involving tens of thousands of volunteer donors and participants. The International WeLoveU Foundation Blood Drive will be held Sunday, Aug. 23, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the Pasadena Convention Center, 300 E. Green St., Pasadena. There is no cost to participate, although donors are encouraged to register in advance and should bring a valid photo ID and be prepared to meet standard blood donation eligibility requirements. Parking is available in the Pasadena Convention Center parking structure and nearby public garages, with daily rates generally beginning at $15, depending on the facility and event.
