Most cities wait for summer to celebrate America’s favorite sandwich. Pasadena flips the script.

The Crown City’s annual Cheeseburger Week kicks off Jan. 26, transforming local eateries into a burger lover’s paradise. The six-day event runs through Jan. 31.

The timing isn’t just about taste. It’s about survival, in some cases, with Pasadena restaurants continuing to recover from pandemic losses and early 2025 fires. The January tradition now serves as a crucial economic lifeline, drawing diners from across Southern California to support struggling businesses.

Several Crown City restaurants will feature special burgers and deals. The event also includes the Cheeseburger Challenge, where diners vote for their favorites.

Pie ‘N Burger leads the lineup of participating restaurants. The California Boulevard stalwart joins other favorites including Clearman’s Northwoods Inn, Mijares Mexican Restaurant, The Kitchen and Magnolia House.

Some participating eateries sit outside Pasadena but within the San Gabriel Valley. More restaurants may be added to the roster.

The celebration honors Pasadena’s claim as the birthplace of the cheeseburger. Lionel Sternberger created the dish at the Rite Spot. The city marked the cheeseburger’s centennial in 2024.
