First United Methodist Church Pasadena will present four free performances of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s “Cinderella” from July 22 to 25, according to a press release from the church, continuing a summer musical tradition the church’s website says has run for more than 50 years.
The musical follows a young woman forced into servitude by her stepmother and stepsisters who finds love with a prince with the help of her fairy godmother, according to the church’s announcement. Performances will run each night at 7 p.m., with a Family Night scheduled for July 23, according to the release.
The production is staged by First United Methodist’s Drama Committee at the church, located east of Old Town Pasadena in the Playhouse District at 500 E. Colorado Blvd., according to the church’s website. The church was founded in 1874, according to the church’s website. It has staged summer musicals free to the public in past years, including last year’s “Honk!,” according to previous Pasadena Now reporting.
Performance dates and times, according to the press release:
- Wednesday, July 22: 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
- Thursday, July 23: 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. (Family Night)
- Friday, July 24: 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
- Saturday, July 25: 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
Dinner will be served at 5:30 p.m. before each performance except July 23, when the church will instead offer popsicles for children as part of Family Night, according to the release. Suggested dinner donations are $20 for adults and $10 for children under 12, with reservations available through a QR code provided by the church.
All performances are free to attend, the church said in its release.
The church describes itself as a Christian community that welcomes people “regardless of sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, race, ethnicity, age, physical or mental capacity,” according to the release. Sunday worship services are held at 10 a.m.
