The Pasadena Conservatory of Music will present a musical storytime built around Emmy Kastner’s picture book “All the Ice Cream in the Land” at Vroman’s Bookstore, 695 E. Colorado Blvd., on Saturday, Sept. 5, at 11:30 a.m.

The free program, for caregivers and children ages 3 to 9, pairs the story with musical accompaniment, interactive musical play and a mini-concert by conservatory students, according to Vroman’s event listing. Young Musicians Department Chair Rachael Denny leads the session, with conservatory students and faculty performing and reading the book, the conservatory said.

Published in May by Simon & Schuster Books for Young Readers, “All the Ice Cream in the Land” is a cumulative fairy tale in the vein of “If You Give a Mouse a Cookie,” in which a kingdom of overeager loyal subjects and a baffled princess end up with a realm’s worth of ice cream, according to the publisher. Kastner wrote and illustrated the 56-page hardcover, which is aimed at ages 4 to 8.

Kastner, a former high school English and science teacher in San Francisco, cofounded the youth writing center Read and Write Kalamazoo after moving back to Michigan, where she lives with her family, according to Simon & Schuster.

The session continues a Musical Storytime series the conservatory has run at Vroman’s for years, with roughly monthly programs that match children’s books with songs, movement and activities for young children and their caregivers. The June installment featured Micah Player’s “This Is a Moment.”
