On a Flag Day that falls inside the nation’s 250th-anniversary year, Pasadena Elks Lodge No. 672 will gather to honor the flag and the people who have served beneath it. The lodge’s Veterans Committee hosts a Flag Day luncheon Sunday, June 14 at 400 W. Colorado Blvd. in Pasadena, an afternoon of patriotism, fellowship and gratitude the lodge has titled “Honoring the Brave, Celebrating the Flag!”
The program also recognizes the 250th anniversary of the United States Army and arrives weeks before the country marks the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence on July 4 — a connection the lodge is treating as part of the broader Semiquincentennial year.
Doors open at 11 a.m., with lunch served at 11:30 a.m. The formal program begins at 12:30 p.m. and includes a flag history presentation and music, followed by a U.S. flag retirement ceremony at 1:30 p.m. The retirement ceremony is the solemn heart of the gathering, a ritual in which worn American flags are formally and respectfully retired from service. Lunch is a classic American barbecue spread, with hamburgers, chicken and hot dogs alongside traditional side dishes.
All veterans receive free admission. Members and guests are welcome and asked to register in advance. Established in 1901, Pasadena Elks Lodge No. 672 has been a fixture of civic and charitable life in the city for more than a century, with its building anchoring West Colorado Boulevard in central Pasadena.
