The Pasadena Museum of History just announced a wide-ranging, multi-year initiative launched in commemoration of Pasadena’s 135th Anniversary on June 19 (Pasadena was incorporated on that date in 1886).
The project, called “Exploring Pasadena,” is intended to encourage residents and visitors alike to explore the city through varied offerings and to discover the stories behind the people, places, and things that have been instrumental in creating this unique community.
The first event, to be held on Saturday, July 17, is a “Walking Tour: The Families of Orange Grove Boulevard and the Artists, Bohemians, and Craftsmen of the Arroyo,” from 10 a.m. to 12 noon, departing from the Pasadena Museum of History, at 470 W. Walnut St. in Pasadena.
“Pasadena is filled with scenic vistas, natural beauty, iconic structures, historic sites, and diverse neighborhoods,” the Museum said in a statement. “The Indiana Colony established the City along Orange Grove Boulevard, overlooking the Arroyo Seco. Over time, this area attracted many interesting people, from well-known families along Orange Grove Boulevard’s ‘Millionaires’ Row’ to a wide array of artists and craftsmen who settled down the hill.”
Julia Long of Pasadena Walking Tours will lead you on this two-hour journey to learn more about these areas and the fascinating people who called this place home. Please take note: this tour will involve a steep incline at times.
Exploring Pasadena will include visual and aural presentations, guided tours, participatory games, unique lectures, hands-on workshops, and other activities.
PMH will feature all offerings and ticketing information on their Events page, www.pasadenahistory.org/
Tickets are $25 General Admission. For PMH members, tickets are $20. Space is limited so advanced reservations are required.
