Pasadena’s evolution from agricultural town to tourism and culture hub will be in focus Saturday, Jan. 24, when Pasadena Heritage leads a “Playhouse Village Walking Tour” through the neighborhood east of the Civic Center.

The docent-led tour runs from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., covers about one mile on foot and begins at Pasadena Heritage’s headquarters in the historic Blinn House at 160 N. Oakland Ave. Tickets are $25 for general admission and $20 for Pasadena Heritage members.

Playhouse Village is branded as one of Pasadena’s arts and culture hubs, home to the Pasadena Playhouse, Vroman’s Bookstore, museums, galleries, restaurants and small independent shops. Within it, the officially designated Pasadena Playhouse Historic District “contains approximately 34 buildings, which represent the eastward growth of the City’s urban core during the 1920s and 1930s, after Pasadena’s economy had changed from agriculture to tourism.”

Pasadena Heritage, a nonprofit founded in 1977, notes that “The mission of Pasadena Heritage is to identify, preserve and protect the historic, architectural and cultural resources of the City of Pasadena through advocacy and education.” Its headquarters, the Prairie-style Blinn House, is described as “the only known Maher residential structure built west of the Mississippi River.”

Playhouse Village Walking Tour will run on Saturday, Jan. 24 at 10 to 11:30 a.m. Blinn House, 160 N. Oakland Ave., Pasadena.
