Each year, Pasadena Heritage’s Craftsman Week celebrates the enduring beauty, craftsmanship, and cultural legacy of the Arts and Crafts movement in Pasadena and beyond. Through a thoughtfully curated series of interior tours, walking tours, lectures, exhibitions, and hands-on craft demonstrations, the week invites the public to experience historic architecture and traditional artistry in meaningful and inspiring ways.
“We are thrilled to once again be offering this experience,” said Pasadena Heritage Programs Director Nick Giovanazzi. “This year’s Craftsman Week has an incredible lineup of events, including exclusive interior and exterior tours of the Blacker House with renowned artisans as well as an evening reception at the home.”
In 2025, Craftsman Week welcomed more than 1,200 visitors from across the region, bringing together homeowners, designers, preservationists, artists, students, and families in a shared appreciation for craftsmanship and place. From rare opportunities to step inside significant historic homes to engaging conversations with scholars and makers, the week reflects Pasadena Heritage’s mission to connect people to history through lived experience.
“We are honored to lead this celebration of the Arts and Crafts movement and to highlight the artistry of the era, which embodies values of craftsmanship, community, and harmony with nature that remain deeply relevant today,” said Pasadena Heritage Executive Director Dr. Bridget Lawlor.
The American Arts and Crafts movement flourished in the late 19th and early 20th centuries as a response to industrialization, emphasizing handcraft, natural materials, and design integrity. Pasadena became one of its most important centers, home to renowned architects Charles and Henry Greene and landmarks such as the Blacker House (1907) and the Gamble House (1908), as well as neighborhoods of Craftsman bungalows like Bungalow Heaven—designated in 1989 as the City of Pasadena’s first Landmark District of its kind. Today, Pasadena’s Arts and Crafts legacy continues to inspire preservation, artistry, and a strong sense of place, making it one of the most significant concentrations of Craftsman-era architecture in the country.
