The Pasadena Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department has introduced a free weekly walking club for seniors, aiming to encourage physical activity and social interaction. The program, which runs from July 12 through August 30, 2024, takes place every Friday at 8 a.m. on the Arroyo Seco Trails.
Open to adults aged 50 and above, the Senior Walking Club provides transportation from Villa Parke Community Center to the trails. Participants are advised to bring water, wear comfortable shoes, and dress appropriately for the weather.
“Join us this summer for a FREE weekly walking club at the Arroyo Seco Trails!” the Pasadena Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department announced in a statement. The initiative offers seniors an opportunity to stay active and enjoy nature.
The Arroyo Seco Trails, known for their scenic beauty, offer an ideal setting for outdoor activities. Participants can enjoy the natural surroundings while engaging in light exercise.
To ensure accessibility, the department offers transportation services from a central location. “Transportation departs from Villa Parke Community Center, 363 E. Villa St.,” the statement noted, facilitating participation for those who may have limited mobility options.
For more information about the Senior Walking Club, interested parties can contact the Pasadena Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department at (626) 744-6530. The department also provides accessibility accommodations with advance notice.
“For accessibility information and requests, contact (626) 744-7311 or CSC@CityOfPasadena.net. Providing at least 72 hours advance notice will help ensure availability,” the department stated.
As communities seek ways to promote active aging, Pasadena’s initiative serves as an example of engaging older residents in health-promoting activities. The program’s success could potentially inspire similar efforts in other municipalities.
