As elementary school students across Pasadena head back to classrooms this fall, the city’s public library system is launching comprehensive homework assistance for kindergarten through sixth grade students.

Starting Tuesday, September 2, the Pasadena Public Library will offer free homework help every Monday through Thursday from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. The program extends the library’s educational commitment that began with free summer tutoring from June through August at Villa Parke and Jefferson branches, plus online through HelpNow.

“We aim to support students of all ages with an array of free resources to invest in community success,” library officials stated when announcing the summer initiative.

The program will be staffed by teen volunteers aged 15 to 24, who commit to working one to two-hour shifts weekly for a minimum 12-week period. This model provides younger students academic assistance while offering older teens community service opportunities.

Tim McDonald, director of libraries and information services, spotlights libraries’ educational impact. “I grew up visiting my local library, and it was such a valuable asset that helped me learn, grow and discover,” McDonald said.

The library prioritizes accessibility, requesting 72 hours advance notice for accommodations. The program runs continuously Monday through Thursday; hours and exclusions may vary by branch—confirm with your local Pasadena Public Library.

“Homework Help (K-6)” will run on Tuesday, Sept. 2 through the school year at 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. La Pintoresca Branch Library, 1355 N Raymond Ave, Pasadena . For more information, call (626) 744-4066 or visit https://www.cityofpasadena.net/library/?trumbaEmbed=view%3Devent%26eventid%3D187590562.
