Seeking a way to strengthen your core without expensive gym memberships? The Hastings Branch Library is offering residents a free introduction to pilates this Thursday morning.

The library describes pilates as “a whole-body method of movement focusing on the unison of breath, proper form, and flow to create a mind-body connection.” The library highlights the practice as low impact exercise aimed to create optimal strength and flexibility by using your own resistance.

Participants need only themselves and a yoga mat. Registration is required through the library’s online system.

This offering is part of the Pasadena Public Library system’s robust wellness programming across its 10 branches. The library has offered Introduction to Pilates classes previously, with sessions held on August 7 and September 4.

For those requiring accessibility accommodations, participants should contact Hastings Branch in advance. The Pasadena Public Library maintains comprehensive accessibility programs for people with disabilities, including sensory sensitivities, autism, ADHD, and those who are blind, low-vision, deafblind, or print-disabled.

“An Introduction to Pilates” will run on Thursday, Jan. 8 from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Hastings Branch Library, 3325 E. Orange Grove Blvd. For more information, call (626) 744-7262 or visit https://www.cityofpasadena.net/library/?trumbaEmbed=view%3Devent%26eventid%3D193567981.
