The Pasadena Public Library is launching a free gardening course this fall to empower residents with sustainable food practices. The “Seed to Supper: A Beginner’s Guide to Low-Cost Vegetable Gardening” series begins on Sept. 7, teaching participants how to grow vegetables on a limited budget.
The program, held at the Hastings Branch Library, consists of three sessions: Sept. 7, Oct. 5, and Nov. 2, each from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. It targets adults, including those 50 and older, and emerging adults aged 18-24 who wish to learn cost-effective gardening techniques.
Master Gardener Denà Brummer will lead the course. The program is categorized under Health & Wellness, Hobbies/Crafts/Games, and Pasadena Grows / Gardening, reflecting its multifaceted approach to community education.
The program description states: “Growing your own food is a delicious, cost effective way to improve your diet.” It aims to make gardening accessible to beginners who might find it challenging to start.
Participants will learn essential skills such as garden planning, soil preparation, planting, care, and harvesting. The focus on low-cost methods ensures the program’s accessibility to a wide range of community members.
Those interested need to register once to attend all three sessions. The library encourages individuals needing accessibility accommodations to contact the Hastings Branch at least 72 hours in advance, aligning with the program’s goal of inclusivity.
