After 50, the body doesn’t send one signal that things have changed. It sends five — from the brain and the heart to the bones, the hormones, and sexual health — often all at once, and often without much warning.

On Wednesday, a Pasadena gynecologist who has spent 38 years treating patients through those shifts will address all five in a single talk at Huntington Hospital. Bryan Jick, MD, a board-certified OB-GYN and certified menopause specialist affiliated with Fair Oaks Women’s Health, will speak at noon in the hospital’s North Dining Room at 100 W. California Blvd. as part of the Senior Care Network’s Noon Hour lecture series, according to a Huntington Health announcement.

The talk, titled “Thriving in Midlife and Beyond,” is free and open to the public through the network’s 50+ Health Connection program, a free membership for community residents age 50 and over, according to Huntington Health. Advance registration is required.

Jick holds a fellowship in the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and is credentialed as a Menopause Society Certified Practitioner, according to his professional website. He graduated Phi Beta Kappa and summa cum laude from UCLA, earned his medical degree from the University of California, San Diego, and completed his residency at Kaiser Hospital in Los Angeles in 1988, according to his practice biography. He has practiced gynecology in Pasadena since then.

“Joining Huntington Health, a Cedars-Sinai affiliate, will provide access to extraordinary resources and support that will directly benefit our patients for years to come,” Jick said on the Fair Oaks Women’s Health page on the Huntington Health website.

Fair Oaks Women’s Health, where Jick serves as medical director, is located at 625 SouthFair Oaks Avenue adjacent to the hospital campus, according to Huntington Health. Jick has previously presented on menopause for the Noon Hour series, including a January 2024 webinar on relieving menopause symptoms, according to the Huntington Health Noon Hour archive.

The Noon Hour series is run by Senior Care Network, a hospital-based program founded in 1984 that serves more than 15,000 community members annually, according to Huntington Health. The program’s team of social workers and public health nurses provides care coordination, health education, and resources to older adults and adults with disabilities across the San Gabriel Valley.

“Our dedicated team works closely with individuals and families every day, personally answering questions to help them navigate through the health-related challenges of aging,” Eileen Koons, director of Senior Care Network, said in a statement marking the program’s 40th anniversary.

The lecture takes place Wednesday, May 6, at noon in Huntington Hospital’s North Dining Room, 100 West California Boulevard. Attendees should bring identification for check-in. Registration is available at https://bit.ly/4d5y4VY or by calling the Senior Care Network membership line at (626) 397-3147.

Five signals, one afternoon, no charge — and a physician who has been listening to them in Pasadena since 1988.
