Pasadena residents will have a rare opportunity to safely dispose of old electronics while protecting themselves from identity theft at a combined e-waste recycling and document shredding event on Saturday, August 23.
The free event runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Parking Lot I outside the Rose Bowl Stadium near Brookside Park, 360 North Arroyo Boulevard.
The line will close at 2 p.m. to allow processing of remaining customers.
The city’s Department of Public Works will accept electronic waste including computers, keyboards, printers, monitors, laptops, docking stations, scanners, fax machines, computer mice, telephones, televisions, flat screens, VCRs, DVD players, PDAs, cassette players, tape drives and stereos.
Household batteries, fluorescent light bulbs and LED light bulbs are also accepted.
These items should never be disposed of in regular trash or recycling containers, according to the city.
The Department of Public Works will simultaneously provide free paper shredding to help residents prevent identity theft.
Participants can bring a maximum of three legal-size boxes for shredding.
Acceptable documents include receipts, checks, credit card statements, outdated tax returns, pre-printed envelopes, return address labels and business cards.
Documents must be removed from ring binders and clips.
The event is open to Pasadena residents and sponsored by the city’s Department of Public Works.
