Pasadena’s parks will come alive after sunset this summer as the city launches its 14th annual Parks After Dark program.
The summer initiative begins July 10 with a kickoff festival at Robinson Park. The program runs through mid-August across multiple city parks.
“PAD transforms Pasadena’s beautiful parks into vibrant hubs of fun, fitness and family friendly activities,” said an announcement by the Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department (PRCS).
The kickoff event runs from 6 to 9 p.m. at Robinson Park Baseball Diamond on North Fair Oaks Avenue. The festival features free food, inflatable games, arts and crafts and a live DJ. A community softball game between residents and Pasadena Police will highlight the evening.
Movies Under the Stars return every Friday from July 11 through Aug. 8. The outdoor screenings begin at dusk at various parks across the city. Featured films include “Moana 2,” “Sonic 3,” “Despicable Me 4,” “Dog Man” and “The Wild Robot.”
Pre-movie activities start early at each location. Families can enjoy arts and crafts and games before the main feature.
Swimming takes center stage during Aqua Boogie Nights on Saturdays. The pool parties run from 6 to 9 p.m. at Kennedy Pool and Villa Parke Pool. Participants can swim, dance and enjoy music. Lifeguards will be on duty, and children must have adult supervision.
Sports leagues offer competitive play for different age groups. Adult basketball runs Thursday evenings at Robinson Park Recreation Center. High school players can compete on Saturday nights at the same location.
Soccer leagues feature 7-on-7 games on the Villa Parke turf field. Adult leagues are divided by age, with players 18-34 competing on Thursdays and those 35 and older playing on Fridays.
Special events include Aztec Dance lessons on July 26 at Villa Parke. The four-hour workshop teaches traditional dance steps and drum rhythms with live accompaniment.
Foam & Glow Frenzy events on July 17 and July 31 promise dancing and foam parties. The evening events feature music, glow accessories and family-friendly activities.
A Teen Neon Party on July 31 targets ages 12-17. The event at La Pintoresca Teen Education Center includes music, food and encourages neon attire.
Concerts are scheduled for July 25 at La Pintoresca Teen Education Center and Aug. 9 at Victory Park. Both shows run from 6 to 9 p.m.
Most activities require no advance registration. Sports leagues and some special events may require sign-ups.
The program aims to build community connections during summer evenings. Families can participate in activities ranging from quiet movie nights to active sports competitions.
All Parks After Dark events are free and open to the public unless otherwise noted. Activities may change without notice.
