Residents can now check out a California State Library Park Pass for free at any Pasadena Public Library branch, thanks to a partnership between the Pasadena Public Library, the California State Parks and the California State Library.

Tim McDonald, Acting Director of Libraries and Information Services who announced the development this week, said the pass provides one passenger vehicle with capacity of nine people or less or one highway-licensed motorcycle  a free vehicle day-use entry to over 200 participating California state parks.

Passes are available to all library card users and they can be checked out for up to 14 days, according to McDonald. Those who do not have a library card can get one at any Pasadena Public Library branch, also for free.

The Pasadena Public Library received California State Library Park passes as a part of a three-year pilot program. The initiative aims to reduce barriers to park access.

Partnering with state libraries will expand the accessibility of experiencing state parks to all library card holders, ensuring more residents face fewer obstacles to spending time in the great outdoors.

“This innovative new program will enable more Californians to explore our incredible State Parks system, and in the process create more equitable access to nature and the outdoors,” said California Secretary for Natural Resources, Wade Crowfoot.
