Pasadena Resident, UCLA Oncologist Dr. Evangelina Kirimis Explains Breast Cancer Treatments

Dr. Evangelina Kirimis

Dr. Evangelina Kirimis, a Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center-affiliated hematologist and medical oncologist who practices in Pasadena, her home community, will be discussing the history of breast cancer treatments and how even patients with advanced disease can live well with chronic medical therapy during a free online educational workshop on Tuesday, September 8, starting at 6:30 p.m.

The workshop is presented by Cancer Support Community (CSC) Pasadena.

Born and raised in Pasadena, Dr. Kirimis has an emphasis on breast and gynecologic cancers, but she also treats patients with all types of cancer and hematologic conditions, and enrolls patients in UCLA Health’s full scope of clinical trials.

When it comes to patient care, Dr. Kirimis said she prides herself on treating everyone as an individual, and considering each person’s work and family situation when making treatment recommendations. When necessary, she brings together a multidisciplinary team that includes ancillary services, such as nutrition counseling and psychology, as well as alternative treatment modalities. Her goal is to always find the right treatment plan for each patient that considers these factors and options.

Dr. Kirimis received her medical degree from the USC Keck School of Medicine. She then completed internal medicine residency and her hematology/oncology fellowship at UCLA.

When she’s not working, Dr. Kirimis likes to stay active and exercise, and live the type of health lifestyle she advocates to her patients.

Cancer Support Community (CSC) said it is now the largest provider of cancer support worldwide, with 42 affiliates across the country – including Cancer Support Community Pasadena – and in Canada, Israel and Japan.

Cancer Support Community Pasadena (CSCP) was the third CSC affiliate established in 1990 by Debbie Bolton, RN, Dr. Marguerite Marsh, Arlene Harder, and the late Paul Taylor. Anne Kennedy served as the organization’s first Executive Director and continues to be actively involved in CSCP today.

CSCP, formerly known as the Wellness Community-Foothills, first operated in a small house located at Hill Street in Pasadena. The organization moved to 200 E. Del Mar Blvd. where it remained for 23 years. In 2016, CSCP moved to its beautiful current facility located on the second floor of the Pasadena Humane Society’s building at the corner of Raymond Ave. and Del Mar Blvd. in Pasadena.

For the past 30 years, CSCP has served over 21,000 people challenged with cancer. The organization currently provides 12 weekly support groups and three monthly support groups facilitated by professional mental health therapists, and over 125 monthly education workshops led by experts in their field, along with stress management classes.
