Pasadena Senior Center Celebrates 65 Years With Free AgeWell Day Event

Anniversary celebration offers workshops, fitness classes and educational presentations to promote healthy aging

The Pasadena Senior Center will mark its 65th anniversary with AgeWell Day 2025, a free event on Saturday, Sept. 27, designed to promote healthy aging through workshops, fitness classes, and educational presentations.

Running from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., the event welcomes all participants 50 and older, with no requirement for in Pasadena residency or PSC membership. Registration is requested through the PSC website or by calling (626) 795-4331.

Executive Director Akila Gibbs will deliver the keynote presentation, “Getting Better With Age — 65 Years of PSC at the Forefront of Healthy Aging,” from 9 a.m. to 9:45 a.m.

“For older adults, this is the time of life when new doors open and new experiences beckon,” Gibbs said. “Staying active as you age can work wonders for your physical and mental health and lead to a longer, more fulfilling life with greater independence.”

The day begins with a complimentary continental breakfast served from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.

Educational sessions include a wellness talk by PSC physical therapist Chrystal Yen, introductory yoga, and an iPhone photography mini-class. The Foundation for Senior Services Age Well Academy will present on financial wellness, and the event concludes with a performance by the “Tap Chicks.”

The center’s history dates back to 1953 when Ed Bignell initiated the senior center effort. PSC operates as an independent, donor-supported nonprofit that receives no government operating funding, though the City of Pasadena provides the facility rent-free.
