The Pasadena Senior Center celebrated its 65th anniversary on October 19 with a special gathering at a private club in Pasadena, recognizing two healthcare professionals for their exceptional service to older adults — Laura Mosqueda, MD, and Kathy Eastwood, RN.

The milestone event honored both women for their decades of work advancing the health, dignity, and empowerment of seniors in the community. Executive Director Akila Gibbs praised their dedication, saying the center chose to celebrate “those who have profoundly shaped the lives of seniors through their dedication and expertise.”

Dr. Mosqueda, a Professor of Family Medicine and Geriatrics at the Keck School of Medicine of USC, is widely recognized as a national leader in elder care and abuse prevention. As Senior Advisor to the National Center on Elder Abuse and a volunteer long-term care ombudsman, she has influenced policies and programs that safeguard the rights and well-being of older adults. Her work, both in Pasadena and nationwide, continues to set standards in geriatric health and advocacy.

Kathy Eastwood, RN, a community outreach nurse at Huntington Health with more than 40 years of experience, was also honored for her extensive public health work. For more than 15 years, she has partnered with the Pasadena Senior Center to lead health programs such as monthly screening clinics for hypertension and diabetes, chair yoga classes, and annual wellness fairs. Through Huntington Health’s Community Outreach Program, she has provided free health services that have empowered hundreds of older adults to better manage their health.

The evening also celebrated the Pasadena Senior Center’s six and a half decades of service. Since opening its doors in 1960, the center has become a cornerstone for the city’s aging population, offering programs that promote fitness, socialization, lifelong learning, and volunteerism.

Today, with roughly 10,000 Americans turning 65 each day, the center continues to lead in addressing the evolving needs of seniors. Its innovative programs are recognized nationally for helping older adults age with dignity, purpose, and vitality.
