The presentation, offered Thursday, December 4 at 10 a.m. via Zoom, is presented by the LA County Department of Mental Health and specifically targets seniors who have experienced losses or lack family and social support. Registration is required to receive the Zoom link through the Pasadena Senior Center website.
The “Holiday Blues” presentation is part of the LA County Department of Mental Health’s Mental Wellness Series for Older Adults, a comprehensive community education program providing presentations on mental wellness and well-being to older adults and their caregivers. The Mental Wellness Series currently offers more than 16 mental wellness topics specifically designed for older adults, with the goal of increasing awareness throughout Los Angeles County, particularly among underserved and underrepresented communities.
The Pasadena Senior Center is expanding its holiday programming with two additional related presentations. “Caregiving in the Holidays” will be offered Thursday, December 11 at 10 a.m. via Zoom, and a Spanish-language presentation titled “Tristeza Navideña” (Holiday Sadness) will be held Thursday, December 18 at 1 p.m.
According to Akila Gibbs, Executive Director of the Pasadena Senior Center since October 2008, the organization serves as a crucial resource. “We are the home away from home for a lot of older adults in Pasadena who really don’t have the opportunity to celebrate the holidays,” Gibbs said.
For scheduling inquiries about the Mental Wellness Series presentations, Haydeh Fakhrabadi, Psy.D., Clinical Psychologist for the LA County Department of Mental Health, can be reached at hfakhrabadi@dmh.lacounty.gov or 213-943-9911.
