The Pasadena Senior Center will host a comprehensive health fair and distribution event on Friday, January 17, serving as a beacon of hope and resilience for older adults impacted by the Eaton Fire.
The event, scheduled from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at 85 East Holly St., aims to address both immediate health concerns and basic needs of affected seniors, offering a space for healing, health assessment, and community support.
“We have been working around the clock to contact older adults to assess the needs they are facing,” said Executive Director Akila Gibbs. “We will have on hand a lot of important information to pass out to attendees,” Gibbs added, highlighting the Center’s proactive approach in providing assistance and information to the community.
The health fair will feature a team of medical professionals, including Kathy Eastwood, RN from Huntington Health, Laura Mosqueda from Keck Medicine, and Anthony Hou from Kaiser Permanente. They will conduct health assessments and respond to medical inquiries, providing free services including glucose tolerance tests, blood pressure measurements, and hearing tests. Their expertise in geriatric health ensures attendees receive top-notch advice and care.
In addition to medical services, attendees will receive fresh fruits and vegetables, water, and hygiene products. The Center has made special outreach efforts to seniors who previously attended the Altadena Senior Center, which was destroyed in the fire, inviting them to join both this event and future lunch gatherings.
Since the Eaton Fire began, the Pasadena Senior Center has contacted more than 2,000 seniors, conducting wellness calls and responding to inquiries. For 65 years, the organization has worked to improve lives through social interaction, fitness programs, basic support services, education, volunteerism, and community activism. As a leader in addressing aging issues and serving 10,000 new older adults daily, the Center provides innovative, cutting-edge, nationally recognized programs.
The Pasadena Senior Center operates as a donor-supported nonprofit without local, state, or federal funding, providing more services to older adults than any other organization in the San Gabriel Valley. Regular operations continue Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon. For more information, visit www.
