The intersection of hearing and cognition takes center stage Thursday when Pasadena Village hosts “For Your Hearing Considerations,” a free educational session led by board-certified audiologist Philip Salomon.

The timely event underscores growing medical evidence linking untreated hearing loss to social isolation and cognitive decline.

The Lancet Commission on Dementia (2020) identified hearing loss as the single largest modifiable risk factor for dementia in midlife, potentially accounting for 8% to 9% of all dementia cases.

“Salomon highlights two major factors that affect quality of life: the link between hearing loss and social isolation, and the connection between untreated hearing loss and cognitive decline, including dementia,” according to event materials.

Salomon is a board-certified diagnostic audiologist with an Au.D. degree and certification from the American Board of Audiology.

He founded Salomon Audiology in West Covina.

The event organizer is Patti La Marr, a Pasadena Village member and longtime Altadena/Pasadena resident.

Pasadena Village, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, fosters independent living for adults 55 and older.

The organization’s strategic goal includes reducing “loneliness and isolation among aging-in-place older adults.”

Katie Brandon serves as executive director.

Registration is required via the Pasadena Village website.
