The event is a swap rather than a resale. Families bring outgrown children’s clothing and take home replacements, with no purchase involved and no admission charge.
The store sits at 47 North Fair Oaks Avenue, at One Colorado on the corner of North Fair Oaks Avenue and Union Street, in the heart of Old Pasadena. The timing lands in the final stretch before the school year, when Pasadena and Altadena families are replacing clothes children have grown out of over the summer. For Altadena households still cycling through rentals since the Eaton Fire, a free exchange within a short drive of the foothills adds to a run of back-to-school clothing and supply distributions across the area this month.
Repairs during the Happy Hour cover minor tears, broken buttons and damaged zippers on Patagonia garments. Families without clothing to swap can still bring items in for mending.
The exchange draws on programs Patagonia runs company-wide. Worn Wear resells used Patagonia clothing and gear, including children’s items; a trade-in program issues credit for returned goods; and the company maintains repair services alongside published care-and-repair instructions. Patagonia describes these as efforts to extend garment life and keep products out of the waste stream.
Store-hosted kids’ clothing swaps are a recurring format for the retailer rather than a one-off. Patagonia ran one at its Krog Street store in Atlanta on Saturday, Aug. 17, 2024, and another at its Telluride, Colorado, store that November. Terms have varied between locations, so item limits, accepted age ranges and swap mechanics for the Pasadena event should be confirmed with the store.
Saturday store hours run from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., placing the four-hour exchange inside the normal retail day.
