As the lights dim in CA 135 at PCC in Pasadena, the audience gathers not only for a performance, but for a milestone.
On July 24, a commemorative show opens the first of three evenings honoring the college’s 100-year history.
Presented by PCC’s School of Visual, Media and Performing Arts Theatre Department, the “PCC Centennial Show” will be staged Thursday, July 24, 7:30 p.m. Friday, July 25; and Saturday, July 26, all at 2:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Directed by Nicole Javier, the production will take place in the Studio Theater Workshop (THRT 028), located in the Center for the Arts Theater — CA 135.
The performances are part of PCC’s Centennial Celebration, which spans the 2024–25 academic year. Founded in 1924 as Pasadena Junior College, the institution began with 267 students and quickly became one of the first junior colleges in the Southwest United States.
The college’s Theater Arts program provides pre-professional training for students pursuing theater careers. Each year, it produces four plays and one musical, the latter in collaboration with the Music Department.
The “PCC Centennial Show” follows earlier anniversary events, including a Sept. 28, 2024 community celebration featuring Grammy-winning band Ozomatli and a “Happy Birthday” performance by the Lancer Marching Band.
PCC Superintendent/President José A. Gómez captured the institution’s spirit during a collegewide gathering in August 2024: “That perspective, that transformative way of seeing, is alive and well at PCC.”
The show reflects the ongoing celebration of a century of public education and creative growth at PCC.
