Pasadena City College convenes the second session of its Future of Work webinar series online Thursday morning, a two-hour discussion of the infrastructure, environmental recovery and skilled-trades workforce that the Eaton Fire rebuild across Altadena, Pasadena and Sierra Madre now depends on.
“Future of Work: Resilient Infrastructure and Environmental Recovery” runs from 10 a.m. to noon Thursday, Sept. 3. The college says it will cover soil contamination and effects on water and air quality; where workforce fits into the rebuild, including high-need trades and technical roles; what resilient infrastructure looks like; and how the college and regional partners can align to speed the rebuild.
State Sen. Sasha Renée Pérez, whose 25th Senate District takes in Altadena and Pasadena, gives the welcome remarks. The panelists are Erica Alexis, founder and chief executive of Bridgeline Development and Construction; Ben Garcia, executive director of the LA/OC Apprenticeship Readiness Fund; Carolina Romo, director of the Construction and Asset Management Division at the Los Angeles County Development Authority; and Rodrigo Gonzalez Velarde, chief executive and managing partner of DEODATE.
The college broke its annual Future of Work Conference into three webinars this year, saying the format responds to what it calls urgent workforce demands created by the fire. The first was held June 4 and the third follows Oct. 29. Salvatrice Cummo, vice president for economic and workforce development, hosted the June session.
Discussing environmental recovery alongside infrastructure and workforce, Cummo wrote in an Aug. 19 division newsletter, is “a foundational part of restoring the Altadena we know and love.”
