The Studio Jazz Singers at Pasadena City College will be performing live on Tuesday, November 23, 12 to 1 p.m., at the West Patio of the Center for the Arts (CA) building on the campus at 1570 E. Colorado Blvd., directed by music professor Mary Durst.
Next Tuesday, November 30, it will be the PCC Combo Band, directed by Steven Cotter, performing in this series of concerts that’s free and open to the public. The live music is presented by students taking various music courses.
These bands are among PCC’s Performing Arts ensembles where PCC students are trained in a wide variety of musical styles and skills. While strongly rooted in the traditions of jazz, music classes at PCC are designed to equip the 21st century musician with relevant abilities for a career in music.
Music courses at PCC allow students to enhance their individual performance skills by working with large and small ensembles, by improvisation, composition and arranging, as well as hands-on training in studio production.
PCC has a dedicated faculty of music industry professionals, cutting edge facilities, including an on-campus SSL (solid state logic) equipped recording studio, and a multitude of classes ranging from jazz improvisation to mixing popular music.
