Dr. Evelyn Sagastume opened Petsadena Animal Hospital a decade ago with a vision of creating a welcoming environment for pets and their owners.
This Saturday, the practice will mark its 10th anniversary by inviting the community to a free celebration from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. at its 959 South Raymond Avenue location in Pasadena featuring food trucks, an ice cream truck, a coffee bar, and live music from several bands.
“This is a thank you to our clients, patients and our community for all the support we’ve had the last 10 years,” Dr. Evelyn Sagastume, owner and veterinarian, said in an interview.
Pet-loving people who attend can enjoy carnival games, face painting, raffles, and giveaways. A silent auction will benefit Lifeline for Pets, a local animal rescue organization focusing primarily on cats.
Guided hospital tours will showcase Petsadena’s advanced medical capabilities, including a physical rehabilitation department with an underwater treadmill for low-impact exercise.
Dr. Sagastume saud she founded Petsadena with a vision of creating a welcoming, family-oriented environment for pets and their owners. She started as a solo practitioner with one part-time doctor.
The practice has grown substantially since its inception, expanding from a team of five to 25-26 employees today. It now boasts six veterinarians, including Dr. Sagastume.
Petsadena offers advanced services such as endoscopy, echocardiograms, abdominal ultrasounds, colonoscopy, rhinoscopy, and restorative dentistry. Dr. Sagastume has taken specialized courses to repair damaged teeth before they require root canals.
The practice faced significant challenges during its growth, including adapting to COVID-19 protocols and recovering from a major flood. “We had to become resourceful with how we worked with the contractors to do the work when we weren’t here,” Dr. Sagastume said.
Dr. Sagastume emphasizes the importance of her team in the practice’s success. Looking ahead, she plans to expand community outreach and education efforts, with a focus on preventive care.
She also aims to acquire more advanced equipment, such as a CT scanner, to further enhance the practice’s diagnostic capabilities. Additionally, Dr. Sagastume is committed to fostering professional growth and continued education for her veterinary team.
“As a veterinarian and just within our philosophy of Petsadena, we love animals and we love what they represent in our lives,” Dr. Sagastume said.
