The branch’s “Pixar & Popcorn” series brings a free screening of Brave, the 2012 animated film about a headstrong Scottish princess named Merida, to the small neighborhood library at 1130 South Marengo Ave. on Saturday, March 21, at 2:30 p.m. Snacks are included. Admission is free. The event is open to children ages 5 and up and their families, according to the library’s promotional flyer.
Brave, produced by Pixar Animation Studios and released by Walt Disney Pictures, was the studio’s first film featuring a female lead character. Rated PG, the film follows Merida as she defies an age-old custom in her kingdom and must undo a curse she inadvertently places on her mother. The film features the voices of Kelly Macdonald, Billy Connolly, and Emma Thompson.
The Allendale Branch is one of ten Pasadena Public Library locations. At 3,172 square feet, it is among the system’s smallest — an adobe ranch-style building originally constructed as an isolation hospital in the 1920s and converted to library use in 1951. The branch sits adjacent to the Blair Middle and High School campuses, and its patio, playground, and fireplace give it the feel of a neighborhood living room.
The library’s event flyer lists the target age range as 5 and up, while a social media post from the library describes the event as for ages 3 to 12 and their family members. Families with questions can contact the Allendale Branch at (626) 744-7260.
