Pasadena Playhouse has started an online course, “The Broadway Musical and America,” intended to give students a broad overview of the American musical from “Oklahoma” to the present.
The course started on May 12 and is an 11-week course that situates the Broadway musical as a distinctly American phenomenon and which both influenced and was influenced by the American political landscape since the end of World War II.
During the online webinars, special Broadway guests will discuss classic works of musical theater, with Pasadena Playhouse artists engaging them about why the Broadway musical has endured as an important American art form.
The course runs up to July 21. To know more about the course, visit www.pasadenaplayhouse.org/event/broadway-musical.
Since the state’s Department of Public Health issued restrictions on public gatherings, upcoming shows and events at the Pasadena Playhouse have either been canceled or postponed until further notice to protect both staff and Playhouse patrons and slow the rate of transmission of COVID-19.
