Families and students from across Pasadena, Altadena, and Sierra Madre are invited to explore Pasadena Unified School District’s college and career pathways at the Academy Showcase on Wednesday, January 21 at 4:30 p.m. in the McKinley School Gymnasium. The event is free and open to the public.
The showcase allows students to meet representatives from Pasadena Unified School District’s College & Career Academies and learn how hands-on pathways align student interests with real-world futures. Featured programs include the Immersive Storytelling Academy, the Law and Public Service Academy, the Arts, Entertainment & Media Academy, and the Health Careers Academy, among others.
The Immersive Storytelling Academy at McKinley School integrates digital media, film, interactive arts and oral storytelling into core classes in mathematics, English language arts and history. The Law and Public Service Academy at Pasadena High School features a four-year college preparatory curriculum with a signature Teen Court where students hear real criminal cases monthly and serve as jurors. Blair High School’s Health Careers Academy is a four-year program introducing students to medical professions through guest speakers, job shadowing and internships with health professionals.
A key component across Pasadena Unified School District’s academies is the Summer Internship Program, which connects students with paid, real-world work experiences. According to the district, “Our goal is to prepare students for college, and, ultimately, to go after their dream jobs. Through summer internships, students get a good look into what future careers are actually like so that they can make timely, informed decisions and discover their true passions.”
The PUSD Academy Showcase will run on Wednesday, Jan. 21 at 4:30 p.m. at the McKinley School Gymnasium, 325 S. Oak Knoll Street, Pasadena.
