The Altadena Library District will host “Queer Poets Resist + Open Mic” on Saturday, Nov. 8, bringing together nationally recognized poets and community members for an afternoon of literary activism at a time when LGBTQ+ voices face mounting challenges.

The event, scheduled from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Altadena Main Library Community Room, will feature established queer poets sharing work that addresses urgent contemporary issues, followed by an open mic. According to the official event listing, “queer poets will share work to offer resistance and address urgent issues; community members are invited to share at the open mic.”

Featured poets include Myriam Gurba, author of “Creep: Accusations & Confessions” (2023), a National Book Critics Circle Award finalist; Carla Rachel Sameth, former Altadena Poet Laureate who received a 2023 Academy of American Poets Laureate Fellowship; and many more.

The event is organized under the leadership of current Poets Laureate Sehba Sarwar and Lester Graves Lennon, appointed in April 2024. The Altadena Poetry Review mission highlights uplifting historically underrepresented voices, including Black, Indigenous, LGBTQ+, and people of color.

Queer Poets Resist + Open Mic will run on Saturday, Nov. 8 at 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Altadena Main Library Community Room, 600 E. Mariposa St., in Altadena.
