Santa Anita Park canceled live racing Thursday for the second day as a strengthening Pacific storm moved through Southern California, track officials announced.
The storm intensified sooner than expected and was projected to reached the region Wednesday. Up to three inches of rain were expected over the two-day period in the area surrounding the track.
Races canceled because of the weather will be rescheduled in the coming weeks, officials said. The first make-up day is set for next Thursday, Jan. 8.
Santa Anita Park is operated by The Stronach Group and its 1/ST business, which oversees Thoroughbred racing and pari-mutuel wagering operations across North America. The company’s holdings include racetracks, training centers, media and technology divisions, and hospitality and entertainment ventures, as well as initiatives supporting horse care and safety.
