Children’s films continue to dominate the box office, with Disney’s “Raya and the Last Dragon” opening to $8.6 million this weekend to lead all films in North America, according to industry estimates released Sunday.

“Raya and the Last Dragon” knocked off another animated film, Warner Bros.’ “Tom & Jerry,” which slipped to second place with $6.6 million after opening last weekend with a robust $13.7 million Friday through Sunday at theaters in the United States and Canada, Comscore reported.

Third place went to “Chaos Walking,” a fantasy adventure that opened with $3.8 million. It was followed by the Queens basketball drama “Boogie” with $1.2 million and “The Croods: A New Age” — another children’s film — with $780,000.

Rounding out the top 10 domestic releases, as estimated by Comscore, were “The Little Things” ($550,000), “Wonder Woman 1984” ($511,000), “The Marksman” ($500,000), “Judas And The Black Messiah” ($282,000) and “Monster Hunter” ($260,000).

Indoor movie theaters in Southern California are closed indefinitely due to the coronavirus pandemic, leaving only limited outdoor screenings.
