Pasadena-based Red Hen Press will hold its 32nd annual benefit gala Sunday, Nov. 8, at Palladio Banquet Hall in Glendale, bringing together 17 featured readers for an evening of author readings, a multicourse dinner, a live auction and free books.
The benefit is scheduled from 4 to 7:30 p.m. at the banquet hall, 1018 E. Colorado St. Individual tickets cost $250, a virtual option is available for $50, and tables begin at $3,000.
Among the featured readers is novelist and screenwriter Luke B. Goebel, author of “Fourteen Stories, None of Them Are Yours,” which won the Ronald Sukenick Prize for Innovative Fiction. His forthcoming novel, “Kill Dick,” is being published by Red Hen Press. Goebel’s screenwriting credits include the films “Causeway” and “Eileen.”
Rebecca Chace, author of “Talking to the Wolf,” also is scheduled to participate. Her other books include “Leaving Rock Harbor,” “Capture the Flag” and “Chautauqua Summer.” Chace has contributed to The New York Times, The Yale Review, New England Review, Los Angeles Review of Books and other publications. She is a faculty associate at Bard College’s Institute for Writing and Thinking and has received fellowships from MacDowell, Yaddo, Civitella Ranieri and other organizations.
Poet William Archila is another featured reader. His recent publications include “Canícula/Dog Days: Selected Poems 2009-2013” and “S is For,” which won the 2023 Philip Levine Prize for Poetry. Archila also is the author of “The Art of Exile” and “The Gravedigger’s Archaeology.” He received a 2023 Jack Hazard Fellowship and serves as an associate editor at Tía Chucha Press.
Proceeds from the event help finance the publication of literature by emerging and underrepresented authors, its Writing in the Schools program and its publishing-industry internship program. Writing in the Schools provides free poetry workshops to hundreds of students each year, while the internship program offers experience in editing, marketing, media and design.
