Registration for the 85th Pasadena City Amateur Men’s Golf Championship is now open, with the event happening from March 26 to 28.
The tournament will be played at the historic Brookside Golf Course at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena and is open to all golfers who meet the eligibility requirements. The entry deadline is March 21.
The Pasadena City Golf Championship is open to all players 18 years old and older with a low handicap index ranging from 2.7 to 31.5. Entrants with higher indexes must play down to a 31.5 handicap index. The field will be divided into six flights to play over 54 holes, and will be cut after Saturday rounds to 30 percent and ties for all flights.
Finals for all net flights are to be played on Brookside Course #1 on Sunday, March 28.
The tournament was first played in 1929 and has long been one of Southern California’s most prestigious men’s amateur tournaments. It has been played in several different formats since its founding, including match play, a 72-hole medal play event that ran from Thursday through Sunday.
Currently, the event averages more than 200 players and is seen as a true test of competitive golf for elite high school and collegiate golfers from all over Southern California. It also offers a chance for top mid-amateurs to play in a professional-format tourney.
The Pasadena City Tournament is hosted by Brookside Men’s Golf Club in collaboration with The Rose Bowl Operating Company, American Golf and The First Tee of Greater Pasadena.
The entry fee is $180 per golfer and covers greens fees, commemorative tee prizes, the prize fund, trophies for each net flight winner, the trophy for the Championship flight winner and the name and year on the Pasadena City Championship perpetual trophy.
Due to COVID-19 tournament protocols, caddies are not permitted on the golf course. Players may walk or ride at their own discretion. The entry fee does not include cart fees. Carts are limited to a single rider and are based on availability; walking is encouraged whenever feasible.
