Pasadena residents who want to shop more confidently for clothing and fabric can learn to tell one textile from another at an in-person “Identifying Fabrics” workshop offered by Remainders Creative Reuse.

The two-hour session is designed to help participants understand how different fabrics behave, what they are best used for and how to care for them so garments last longer.

The class description invites attendees to “learn about the properties of fabric and their uses and proper care.”

Participants will “identify fabrics while shopping for fabric or clothing and be able to judge their suitability and pricing,” and will “learn proper care for different fabrics to make your clothing last.”

Materials are included in the fee, with “fabric and all necessary tools” provided.

Instructor Koalani Walkoe is described by Remainders as “a professional costume and fashion designer who also enjoys teaching sewing to others.”

She “started sewing at a very young age and attended FIDM to study Fashion and Costume Design.”

After “working for 7 years in the fashion industry,” she transitioned to teaching introductory sewing classes in group and private formats.

Identifying Fabrics will run on Tuesday, February 24, at 6 p.m. at Remainders Creative Reuse, 787 E. Washington Blvd., Suite 101, in Pasadena. For more call (626) 529-5014 or visit https://remainderspas.org/shop-classes/p/fabric-id-f9p5g-ejxsg-3bt5p-l7ldn-mb3nt-2zkm4. Tickets: $25.
