For those looking to honor those who fell while serving or veterans who succumbed to their injuries afterward, the Pasadena area offers a number of Memorial Day events and activities:

Memorial Day Commemoration
Monday, May 30 at 10:30 a.m.The Vietnam Veterans of America (VVA) in Pasadena will be sponsoring a Memorial Day commemoration on Monday, May 30, at 10:30 a.m. at the site of the Vietnam War Memorial in Pasadena’s Memorial Park, located at 35 E. Holly Street. More information at

Memorial Day Swing Band Concert
Monday, May 30 at 2:00 p.m.The Pasadena Senior Center is inviting everyone to a Memorial Day outdoor concert with the Great American Swing Band. Let’s celebrate the bravery, courage, and spirit of the men and women in our armed forces with popular music from the Big Band era and beyond. Light snacks will be available, a meal will not be served. This event will take place on the patio. The doors of the Center’s Dance Studio adjacent to the patio will be open for those who want a dance floor. Reservations are required.

City of San Marino Memorial Day Service
Monday, May 30 at 9:00 a.m.After a year-long absence, the City of San Marino will return to an in-person Memorial Day Service at Lacy Park. Please join us in honoring the fallen and our military veterans in this patriotic ceremony. The service will include recognition of veterans, special guest speakers and patriotic music. This event is open to the public and will follow all social distancing safety protocols. The City will also be bringing back the Hometown Heroes Display at the park.

Discovery of Aztec Park: Memorial Day Hike
Monday, May 30 at 3:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.Take a 3-hour moderate hike that winds through Haines Canyon to one of Los Angeles’ most enigmatic structures, Aztec Park, in beautiful Tujunga, California. All proceeds go to support the historic Verdugo Hills Cemetery’s care and maintenance. See details at

10K Run — 7:30 a.m.The YMCA of the Foothills will host the annual Fiesta Days Run on Memorial Day at Descanso Gardens proudly sponsored by USC Verdugo Hills Hospital.
