A journalist who has written two books about the British royal family and a novelist who won the National Book Award will appear together at Vroman’s Bookstore on Saturday to discuss and sign “Royal Spin,” their co-authored novel.
Omid Scobie, the royal correspondent whose “Finding Freedom” and “Endgame” focused on Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, and Robin Benway, whose “Far from the Tree” won the 2017 National Book Award for Young People’s Literature, will be at the Pasadena bookstore at 3 p.m. The event falls on Valentine’s Day.
The novel is described in promotional materials as a “fun, humorous, and heartfelt novel that reminds us of the importance of chasing your dreams, and that the most rewarding journeys are often the messiest.”
Los Angeles-based bookstagrammer and reviewer Dahlia De La Vega will moderate the conversation.
Scobie built his reputation in nonfiction. His 2020 book “Finding Freedom,” co-authored with Carolyn Durand, chronicled the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s departure from senior royal duties and became a New York Times bestseller. His 2023 follow-up, “Endgame,” focused on the British monarchy. “Royal Spin” is a novel.
Benway’s career has followed the opposite path — rooted in fiction from the start. Her novels, including “Audrey, Wait!” and the “Also Known As” series, preceded “Far from the Tree,” which won the National Book Award for Young People’s Literature in 2017, one of the most prestigious prizes in American publishing.
The event takes place at Vroman’s Bookstore, 695 E. Colorado Blvd., Pasadena. The bookstore, founded in 1894, is Southern California’s oldest independent bookstore. For more information, contact 626-449-5320 or promo@vromansbookstore.com.
