From the Rarámuri tribe of Mexico, who run ultramarathons in sandals fashioned from discarded car tires, to the world’s most storied road races, the culture of running spans continents, centuries and an astonishing range of human experience. Coach and journalist Raziq Rauf captures that breadth in his book “This Is Running,” and he brings the conversation to Vroman’s Bookstore on Wednesday, April 8 at 7 p.m.
Rauf will be joined in conversation by Jinghuan Liu Tervalon and Ezra Weisz for a discussion of the book’s exploration of running’s culture, history, brands, races and personalities. The subtitle — “A Celebration of the World of Running, Exploring the Culture, History, Brands, Races and People Behind It” — signals Rauf’s ambition to
survey the sport’s full landscape rather than focusing on any single corner of it.
The evening arrives during Armenian Heritage Month, and Vroman’s — the oldest and largest independent bookstore in Southern California, a Pasadena institution since 1894 — continues its tradition of hosting authors whose work spans global cultures and athletic communities alike.
Vroman’s author events are free to attend. Copies of the book will be available for purchase and signing.
