For 30 years, Don Kingfisher Campbell has opened the doors of Pasadena’s libraries to poets seeking community and critique. This Saturday, January 24, from 3 to 4:30 p.m., his Saturday Afternoon Poetry series continues its tradition at Lamanda Park Branch Library—a gathering among the longest-running weekly poetry series in Los Angeles.

Campbell, who holds an MFA in Creative Writing from Antioch University Los Angeles, brings formidable credentials to the role. His 30-year career spans founding POETRYpeople youth writing workshops, publishing the San Gabriel Valley Poetry Quarterly, and teaching creative writing. He has taught Writers Seminar at Occidental College’s Upward Bound program for more than three decades and has judged Poetry Out Loud competitions. He has received poetry awards and recognition throughout his career.

The event is free and open to the public, though it is not sponsored by the Pasadena Public Library. The program operates independently under Campbell’s direction while using library space.

Lamanda Park Branch Library’s meeting room seats up to 34 people and operates Saturday hours from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. For poets interested in submitting work to Campbell’s Four Feathers Press publishing venture, guidelines include up to three poems per submission, no more than 150 lines total, formatted in Arial Narrow 11-point font and single-spaced.

Saturday Afternoon Poetry will run on Saturday, Jan. 24 at 3–4:30 p.m. Lamanda Park Branch Library, 140 South Altadena Drive, Pasadena. For more information, call (626) 744-7266 or visit https://www.cityofpasadena.net/library/?trumbaEmbed=view%3Devent%26eventid%3D194189355.
