Screenwriter Laura Lekkos discusses and signs her debut novel, “All the Little Ways,” on Friday, June 12 at 7 p.m. at Vroman’s Bookstore. Author Elissa Sussman, whose novels include “Funny You Should Ask” and “Once More With Feeling,” joins her in conversation.
The novel, published by Gallery Books — a division of Simon & Schuster — follows Liz, an insecure 32-year-old working on a “vile reality dating show,” and Victoria, a 43-year-old finance executive who had not planned on motherhood until she met an older partner. The two women, who would seem to share nothing, end up in a group for expectant mothers and forge a friendship that pulls each into the other’s orbit. An explosive revelation later threatens that bond and forces both women to question every relationship they have.
Lekkos, who lives in Los Angeles, has written screenplays for studios including 20th Century, Netflix, Amazon MGM, Sony, Universal and Lionsgate. She is the screenwriter behind Amazon MGM’s upcoming romantic comedy “Relationship Goals” and adapted Maureen Goo’s novel “Somewhere Only We Know” for Netflix. Publishers Weekly has noted the novel’s cinematic potential, and Plum Sykes — a New York Times bestselling author — described it as “a perfect summer read.”
The book publishes on June 9, three days before the Vroman’s event, making the Friday signing one of the earliest opportunities for Pasadena-area readers to meet the author and discuss the novel’s themes of modern motherhood, career ambition and female friendship.
The format will follow Vroman’s typical author-in-conversation events: discussion, audience Q&A, and a signing line.
