Second Annual “Sip, Savor, and Support” Brings Community Together to Benefit Local Families Facing Cancer

Cancer Support Community Greater San Gabriel Valley’s 2nd annual “Sip, Savor, and Support” raised $230,000 to support programs for individuals and families impacted by cancer. Held at a beautiful private estate garden in Altadena, the sold-out event brought together supporters and sponsors to fuel the mission of Cancer Support Community.

The evening’s program featured Heather Badt, Chief Operating Officer of Cancer Support Community’s National Headquarters, who stood before guests not just as an executive, but as a survivor and a caregiver. CSC became a key partner in my family’s journey. Because what I learned very quickly is this: Caregiving isn’t a one-person job. It’s a team effort. A community effort. And it continues—every single day. In the check-ins. In the appointments. In the anxiety. In the hope we hold onto. And in all the quiet, powerful ways we keep showing up for one another. Her words were a powerful reminder that this community is built on shared strength and a community of compassion.

The evening featured live musical moments throughout the gardens—from harpist Jessica Brizuela and an immersive sound bath by Vivien Diep to classical guitarist Roberto Montero and a surprise pop-up opera by Suzanna Guzman. The main act lured guests to the tropical pool garden with the smooth sounds of live jazz by Greg Porée and Company, featuring Sidney Jacobs of The 5th Dimension. Adding a personal touch to the evening, five skilled artists from CSC’s watercolor class brought the gardens to life with live paintings, each sharing stories of how CSC has shaped their journey.

“We were thrilled to host our second annual Sip, Savor & Support in such a beautiful setting,” said Patricia Ostiller, the organization’s CEO. This event not only celebrates community but fuels our mission to bring hope, knowledge, and connection to those facing cancer. We are serving more people than ever before in our 35-year history, so fundraisers like this are essential to enabling us to continue to offer support and programs – completely free of charge.”

Garden View Landscape, Nursery & Pools, served as the evening’s Presenting “Master Chef” Sponsor. Mark Meahl, Garden View CEO and owner, was recognized for his outstanding contributions, from creating and maintaining the organization’s beloved “Oasis” garden space to serving on the Board of Directors, the Marketing & Outreach Committee, and the Benefactors Society. “We couldn’t have asked for a more perfect evening,” said Rachimah Magnuson, Director of Events and Marketing.
